Internet scammers

Digital Thieves

Last month a customer at my bank’s helpdesk almost paid €400 because his printer stopped working. Here’s exactly how the scammer, or digital thieves, did it.

I work at an investment bank’s IT department, part time at the helpdesk.
A while ago a very nice gentleman called in total panic: his printer suddenly stopped, he searched Google for help, and 20 minutes later he was about to transfer €400 to a “Microsoft technician” who had full control over his computer.
I was on the phone with him while the scammer was still connected.
This is the exact trick the scammer used that I explain in this book. And lots of other scams too, along with the red flags.

Here’s what happens, a normal computer problem turns into a professional scam.

The scary part?
This exact same trick is used every day on Facebook, WhatsApp, and “Microsoft” phone calls.

These scammers are professionals. They do not work from dark basements. They do this full-time, 9-to-5, in real office buildings.

That’s why I wrote this 57-page book “The world of cybercrime explained for everyone”, everything I’ve seen in 35 years of banking IT, explained so normal people never fall for it.
