One of the most horrible experiences when browsing the Internet is those PopUp windows that appear automatically. These are so frustrating, (especially those blinking ones) that users get angry when seeing many of these ads that have no value for them. Even though Popups are not threatening, they can make life miserable for the surfer.
The creators of the Firefox browser added a Pop-up Blocker that works very good to stop unwanted ads and also let you indicate which sites it shouldn’t block. You receive a message when a Popup tries to open a new window waiting for your approval.
Other very important feature of Firefox is the Phising alert. “Phising” is a very serious threat where a malicious site wants to pass as the real one to mislead visitors to belief they are at the real thing. For example: you receive an email with your bank logo, stating that you must click the link in order to “update” your information or something. Naive users will click that link without verifying and go to a site that looks like the bank site, but is hosted elsewhere and hackers will see the login information and password being able to make money transfers to other accounts without the user knowing. Also, they usually transfer little amounts in order to pass undetected.
You can stop this threat almost entirely using our spam protection system (offered in our emails course at the top right) but Firefox can also help because it will warn you whenever you visit those malicious websites.
